Welcome to American Football Equipment!

Here you will find all kinds of information about football sporting goods, what equipment is required, what the equipment is for, and where to find the items at rock bottom prices.  First, let’s take a look at the different components that make up today’s football player.

The Helmet:

Probably the most important piece of the football equipment is the football helmet.  This is the tool that protects the players head from getting crushed by the opponent.  Trust me when I say that you don’t want to be caught without one.

The helmet is a protective shield over your head that has a facemask and chin strap on front.  The helmets are fitted with plenty of padding to make it fit your head and stay secure.  There are two pads below the ear that are removable and replaceable in different sizes.  Not all face masks are the same, but standard facemasks generally provide coverage for the entire face.  You also have the option to buy sun visors to place on the facemask as well.

Shoulder Pads:

Shoulder pads generally protect more than just the shoulders.  They provide padding and protection that goes down the front towards the sternum and in the back too.  Shoulder pads are put on over the head and then strapped in underneath the armpits.

The more expensive football shoulder pads are much lighter and allow for better breathing.  This way, the athlete won’t lag with the weight or get too hot from wearing them the entire game.  Some shoulder pads even are treated so they don’t smell bad after a game or develop mold or bacteria.

Leg Protection:

Most football uniforms when all suited up include some form of leg protection as well.  The football pants have a slot to put thigh pads and shin pads.  Some players choose not to use them because they hinder their speed, but youth and younger players should wear them no matter.  The pants also come with a tail bone pad to protect the bottom.

Football Cleats:

The cleats you choose t wear will help you gain traction depending on what surface you are playing on.  If you are playing on real grass, then you would want to use a shoe with big cleats.  If you are playing or artificial turf you won’t need the big cleats and instead would need a turf shoe.  You may want to invest in a few options if you plan on traveling and playing on different surfaces.

Accessories:

There are plenty of other accessories you can include with football sporting goods.  Most players are required to wear a mouth guard or mouth piece to protect their teeth.

Football gloves are another piece of equipment that you may want to consider.  They make different gloves for different positions.  The receiving gloves for example are thin with sticky palms, while lineman gloves are thicker and no stickiness.

Last but not least is the actual football.  Footballs vary in size depending on what age group is playing the sport.  Youth footballs are much smaller than standard high school balls, and collegiate balls are a big bigger and more oval than that.  Rubber football prices will also be cheaper than real leather.  Make sure you find the right size and official ball of your league.
